No matter what your age is or what you do, you can do yoga. Yoga is great for the body and for the mind. Even if you say you are not flexible, yoga will help you with your flexibility. Don’t think that yoga is only for moms or pregnant women or for teenagers. It’s easy also. Learn how you can do yoga.

Steps To Doing Yoga

Find a yoga class in your town – You can definitely do yoga at home with a DVD, but it is much funner and more social to join a class for yoga beginners.

Dress for yoga – You should get some yoga wear if you don’t already have some. Some basic yoga pants and a breathable shirt will be great. You can get comfortable shoes as well, but most likely you will be barefoot when doing yoga poses.

Find the right yoga mat – Yoga mats come in many different colors, sizes and thickness’. Thick yoga mats are good for people who have lower back pain and need the extra comfort. Many people will find thinner mats just as comfortable.

Once you do all three things, all you need now is to find a group of ladies who want to participate. It’s fun to do yoga with a group of female friends. As a group you can learn poses and then go for tea or coffee afterward. So find a yoga class in your town and join today!

You may not realize it, but choosing your yoga mat is very important next to what type of yoga you should do. Yoga mats come in different sizes, thickness, texture and colors. Here are some tips to choosing your yoga mat.

Source: Wai Lana

1. Choose A Good Yoga Brand
What’s a good yoga mat brand? There are many out there but some I would recommend are Gaiam, Wai Lana or Lululemon. Going to your local department store may not yield good quality yoga mats so look around first.

2. Choose What Type Of Yoga Mat
Some yoga mats are thicker for cushioning your body and impacts while others are thin. Some are bouncy while others don’t bounce back fast. If you have back pain then getting a yoga mat that is a bit thicker will help inhibit back pain. Thicker yoga mats are also good for the enthusiast yoga person who is a little destructive, or has a dog who likes to chew things.

3. Store Your Yoga Mat Wisely
Rolling up your yoga mat and leaving it in that position will not fare well in yoga class when the ends are curling under. It’s best to store your yoga mat as flat as possible. Placing objects on the mat is also not recommended as this might cause damage to your yoga mat.

When looking for a yoga mat make sure you test it out by standing on it and rolling it out to see how long it is. Lay on it to see if you fit on the yoga mat. Hopefully these tips will come in handy for the newbie yoga person!
